Sunday School |
The Mar Thoma Sunday School Samajam was founded in 1905 and currently there are 1,000 Sunday Schools affiliated to the Samajam. The St. Mathew's Mar Thoma Church Sunday School operates under the operational guidelines of the Mar Thoma Sunday School, Diocese of North America and Europe. The mission of the Sunday School is in accordance with the goals of the Mar Thoma Church Sunday School Samajam in Kerala, India. They are to:
Although the St. Mathew's Mar Thoma Church Sunday School has many shortcomings in terms of proper classrooms, common meeting area etc., we are blessed with a number of talented and dedicated teachers and assistants. They have committed their time and resources voluntarily to witness our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to the students and our community. The Sunday school common session starts at 12:30pm followed by the classes at 12:50pm, on all Sundays. Our children sing and praise God Almighty during the common session, and new songs are also taught at this time. An offertory is collected during the common session to encourage and nurture the spirit of giving in our children. The students and teachers join the Church service at 1:30pm, after the classes. Our Sunday School is following a new curriculum developed by the Marthoma Sunday School Samajam and published by the Marthoma Sunday School Diocesan Council of the Diocese of North America. The general theme of the book is: BEING GOD'S PEOPLE IN GOD'S WORLD. Students in grades 5 to 10 also learn our Marthoma Church History from the book 'The Mar Thoma Church -- Our Foundation and Vision' as directed by the Diocese. The Sunday School organizes separate one-day retreats for teachers and students. Our teachers prepare the students of grades 5 to 10 for the Annual Diocesan Examination which is organized by the Diocese of North America and Europe, and held in May every year. The Sunday School holds an annual Talent Competition to encourage our children to develop their God given talents, and to maintain a healthy competitive spirit among them. Our Sunday School also conducts a Vacation Bible School every summer, which is both fun filled and spiritually beneficial to the young children. The Sunday School is open to students from 3 to 17 years of age.
